U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services released the revised version of the Form I-9 today. Changes to the form include a reduction of Sections 1 and 2 to one page and a checkbox for employers enrolled in E-Verify to indicate they remotely examined identity and employment authorization documents under a newly authorized alternative procedure. The new form includes a checkbox allowing employers to indicate they examined Form I-9 documentation remotely under a DHS-authorized alternative procedure rather than via physical examination. The form is designed to be fillable on tablets and devices.
Employers can use the previous version of the form through Oct. 31. After that, all employers must use the new Form I-9.
