Workers’ Compensation Group Rating Program

Group rating is a program employers can access to reduce workers’ compensation rates. Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC) permits employers to join together to be “rated” as a group through a sponsoring organization, such as Ohio Insurance Agents Association (OIA), to save money.

More than 78,000 Ohio employers have joined a group rating plan. OIA’s plan is one of the largest in Ohio and is administered by Sedgwick.

As a member, you owe it to your organization to explore all of the savings options available to you.  Exploring your options is simple.  For a free, no-obligation analysis, click here to request a savings analysis by completing an AC-3 form.

BWC has approved some changes that impact employers participating in a group rating program. Review the Group Rating Safety Accountability Letter.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are all plans the same?

No. Some plans inflate projected savings and are not large enough to form stable groups. When this occurs, employers find their actual savings are less than expected. OIA’s plan does not inflate projected savings and is large enough to form stable groups in all industries.

How much can I save?

With OIA’s program, you can get the maximum allowable discount. Most employers in our group save the maximum!

What if I have not qualified for group rating in the past?

Your eligibility for group rating may change from year to year. Even if you have not qualified in the past, you could qualify through OIA.

What if I am currently in another group rating plan?

You may switch plans on an annual basis to save more money. Contact us to fill out a no-hassle AC-3 form.

Am I required to join a sponsoring organization to be in group rating?

Yes. Annual dues vary widely and reduce your savings. Some organizations’ dues are more than $1,000, but OIA’s dues are minimal.

How do I compare plans?

After submitting an AC-3 form, if eligible, you will receive enrollment information that projects your savings for the next year. We can assist you in comparing service coverage and related costs.
