Foundation Scholarship Application

Required Materials:

  1. Completed application.
  2. Letter from the applicant explaining:
    • How the scholarship funds will be used to help you be a future/better leader in the independent agency system or a future/better agency owner or partner.
    • What changes you would like to see in the agency in the next 5 years.
  3. Nomination letter from the Agency Principal.
Scholarship funds are intended to supplement or provide financial support to Next Gen independent insurance agents who do not receive funds from their employer for professional development and insurance designations.

Your application is not complete until we receive items #1, 2 and 3 (as applicable).

Important Notes

  • A scholarship will only be granted if there is an educational component.
  • Successfully passing the course is required for reimbursement.
  • Reimbursement for a class will not be granted for any classes taken prior to the scholarship approval date.
  • Scholarships awarded for Agency Operations Education are applied to future services only.
  • Scholarships for designations will be awarded for one class at a time. The applicant can reapply for subsequent classes using the same application.
  • The scholarship is non-transferable and will only be applied to the agent to whom it was awarded.
  • The scholarship awarded may be less than the amount requested.

Agency Operations
Valuation Services

Foundation Scholarship grants will be rewarded upon completion of your valuation. There is a $2,500 cost for initial valuations and a $1,500 cost for repeat valuations.

Business Consulting

OIA’s passionate team of experts is here to help you uncover opportunities for growth and ensure your business is in its best position for perpetuation. Price varies for this service and funds are awarded upon completion.

Agency Link

Agency Link connects buyers and sellers together to further the growth and strength of the IA system. Price varies for this service and funds are awarded upon completion.

Professional Development
CIC Designation

Obtaining your CIC Designation includes 5 classes for a minimum investment of $2,100 and $420 per class.

CISR Designation

Obtaining your CISR Designation includes 5 classes for a minimum investment of $900 and $180 per class.

Trusted Risk Advisor Certification

Obtaining your TRA Certification includes 4 classes for a minimum investment of $1,600 and $400 per class.

CPIA Designation

Obtaining your CPIA Designation includes 3 classes for a minimum investment of $567 and $189 per class.

CRM – Certified Risk Manager

Obtaining your CRM Designation includes 5 classes for a minimum investment of $2,150 and $430 per class.

AFIS Certification – Agribusiness and Farm Insurance Specialist

Obtaining your AFIS Designation includes 5 classes for a minimum investment of $675 and $135 per class.

AAI Designation – Accredited Advisor In Insurance, The Institutes

Obtaining your AAI Designation involves 3 courses plus ethics with 4 total requirements, estimated to take 3 – 6 months to complete. Materials will cost roughly $150 to $265 and the exam will cost $155 to $185.

Next-Gen Summit

OIA’s conference for the next generation of independent agent leaders. This conference happens every other year in the Summer.

Advocacy Day

Big I National’s annual leadership conference is designed for agency owners to connect with other owners from across the nation. The Young Agents Leadership Institute is a way for rising young agents to connect with each other similarly.

Agents Council on Technology Meetings

Periodic meetings held by the Big I National’s Agents Council on Technology or ACT. These meetings discuss emerging technology trends that agents should be aware of.
