Jeff Smith, CEO of the Ohio Insurance Agents Association (OIA), has been recognized with the Big “I” Inclusive Excellence Champion Award for his contributions to the Big “I” Diversity Council. This honor highlights his ongoing commitment to advancing diversity and inclusion within the independent agency channel.
As a member of the Big “I” Diversity Council for 3 years and a contributor to the Diversity Best Practices Work Group, Jeff brings both passion and action to his work, helping ensure that diversity remains central to the future of the profession. He is also a dedicated supporter of the Right Start Mentorship program, which provides guidance and support to agency owners who are underrepresented in the industry.
Peter Perlman, Big “I” Diversity board member and president of Perlman Insurance Agency in West Bloomfield, Michigan, shared his perspective on Jeff’s impact: “He is not only a leader in title, but a mentor in action. He invests his time, shares his perspective, and helps guide the next generation of industry professionals. His willingness to support others as they grow is a powerful example of what inclusive leadership really looks like.”
This recognition reflects Jeff’s leadership and his longstanding commitment to mentorship, inclusion, and developing the next generation of independent insurance professionals, values that align closely with OIA’s mission.
